The Wild Horses of Sable Island

Happy Halloween pretties! Who's a big Halloween fan? I'm not the biggest fan. I loved it when I was younger, when I dressed up as Cinderella, or as my beagle, Butter. One year I was even a piece of gum...what possessed me to do this is still a mystery. When my sisters and I dumped our bags of candy at the end of the night on our living room floor and traded each other for the best candy, like it was the most important thing in the world. haha I liked that Halloween. Now as adults, what do we have to look forward to? Sexy nurse costumes? Eh, I'll pass :).

Today I have a bit of eye candy for you. Candy you can't trick or treat for ;)...I'm sharing these freely! These incredible film photographs by Roberto Dutesco of the Wild Horses of Sable Island. This island is a remote and private island, right off the coast of Nova Scotia. He been documenting these horses for years. They are perhaps some of the most beautiful images I've ever seen. After seeing these photos from Roberto, It makes me be so thankful and in-awe of God's creation. These horses, the island, the waves and open sky...it's a huge reminder to me that the Lord has created all things. And how great is it that we get to enjoy his creation. The next excerpt comes from his website.

"He first learned of Sable Island and its wild horses in 1994 and made his first trip to the island that same year. A perilous journey by small plane from Halifax and a beach landing brought him to this remarkable place. Over time, and with patience and respect for these living creatures who, in the absence of natural predators, exhibit no fear of humans, he learned the ways of the horses and fell in love with the island in the process."

Roberto came out with a book with these prints that is available at Target (if you click the Target link, it'll take you straight to the book, if interested in ordering). The book would be an excellent Christmas present...it's what I'm asking for ;). It's originally $150, but Target is selling if for $127.... it would be a lovely coffee table. A book you could look at for hours snuggled up in your favorite blanket and hot tea in your Anthropologie Mug (you know which one I'm talking about ;)).

create lovely moments. shop yours below.

Fall Trends for 2014

I absolutely love this article, How The West was Worn, from Women's Health Magazine October Issue, I am the Rancher's Daughter, right? :) So it's no surprised that I was completely inspired by this! It encapsulates this western trend this season into a very wearable way. When you think of Western Wear, think of prairie skirts, mixing textures, fringe, and killer boots. Think of rich turquoise colors, dusty browns, and warm terra-cotta. A lot of stores right now carry something western inspired, so if your budget is a permitting, don't fret, I bet you can find a funky western printed scarf or fringed top at H&M or Forever 21. Beauty wise: think of smokey browns and bronze's and turquoise liner. More of a nude lip with a lot of contouring and dewey skin, with natural smokey eyes. I love the models makeup in this shoot (see image 5), so I am going to work on a tutorial for you all on the one with the turquoise liner.

If you're not naturally a "Western" dressing girl per say and don't have loads of amazing turquoise jewelry and Old Gringo boots in your closet, but still want to wear this amazing trend, my recommendation is to pick one thing that shows the trend. Pick one item that you can incorporate in a lot of outfits. But pick one thing you like, for example, say you like fringe....pair your fringe purse or skirt with a graphic tee or plaid shirt with your Frye Boots. Or say you have this killer aztec scarf, pair it with some boyfriend jeans and peasant blouse. Boom. You're killin' it, the Western Way ;). From having lots of Western items in my closet, I know that the one thing that I couldn't live without are my Frye Boots, and all of my maxi skirts, like this one. I bought this amazing Ralph Lauren Skirt from the editorial and will wear it with a cool plaid shirt like she has on (Photo 2). (okay, couldn't live without is a bit extreme, but trust me, you won't regret buying Frye's. Ever.)

Fall Fashion

Happy Tuesday! So let's talk. Or just gawk at the new Free People October 2014 Catalog. Free People hits it out of the park with this one guys. I love their holiday catalogs! The whole look of this catalog is absolutely amazing. The styling and location paired with these killer new pieces, lands them on the top (in my opinion). There are some new and [recycled] fashion trends I'm seeing this fall: plaid is back in a big way, like this top,  jumpsuits are huge again this session, maxi skirts, and sequins- sequined skirts, and jackets. My recommendation to boost your fall wardrobe? Buy one amazing piece that can compliment and finish many other outfits you already have hanging in your closet...like splurging and buying this amazing Sequined Jacket. This jacket you could layer on top of almost anything in your fall wardrobe. The colors that keep arising for fall is that gorgeous wine color! And ofcourse military greens are a classic for fall as well. So kick back, relax, enjoy some Free People and treat yourself to a killer fall piece this season!! Shop the collection below.

Emily's Breakfast Bowl

Good morning readers. I thought I'd share a new recipe with you! Cooking and developing new things that I'm able to eat is one of my favorite things. So I want to start integrating more food and recipes to the blog. Some of you know this, but I am allergic to a lot of foods. I cannot eat gluten, dairy, or eggs...and there are some other little random things too but these are the main foods I cannot eat. So it is hard because most GF foods contain eggs, and most Vegan foods contain gluten. So it is a rare find when the food is GF and Vegan. And if I do find something like this...most of the time, it isn't too yummy. But I can say with 100% confidence that this breakfast is one of my favorite things to eat! And I'm going to share my perfected recipe with you :).

This is the breakfast of champions. In fact, I eat this breakfast every morning. It is Gluten Free, Dairy Free, and Egg Free. It contains lots of protein, healthy fats, and carbs. I usually work out in the morning, so the carbs come in handy after my workout. I try to not eat too many carbs, but I can never cut out fruit. It's nature's own dessert.

Emily's Breakfast Bowl

1 cup of frozen wild blueberries or other frozen fruit mix (raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries)

1 handful of spinach (about 2 cups)

1 banana (frozen is better)

1 tablespoon natural peanut butter

1 scoop Vegan Chocolate Protein Powder (I use Sunwarrior Brand)

1 tablespoon cocoa powder

3-4 tablespoons unsweetened vanilla Almond Milk (add to desired texture of bowl- I usually only add enough for everything to blend, because I like a think textured bowl)

Toppings:

I usually mix these up all the time, but lately I like using a sprinkle of cranberries, walnuts, almonds, unsweetened dried whole cranberries (I get these at Trader Joes- they add a touch of tart), sliced banana, and a whisper of cocoa powder on top (to add some more rich chocolate flavor)

Other ideas would be cocoa nibs, cashews, manuka honey, sunflower seeds, strawberries, oats, chia, flaxseed, sprinkle of instant coffee, or any other kind of cereal.

Add everything (except of course the toppings) to blender and blend. Pour into bowl :)...then add your desired toppings!
